Iraqi Foreign Minister Hopes Iran-US Talks Yield Constructive Agreement

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein expressed optimism that ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States will result in a positive, constructive agreement beneficial to both nations and the entire region. Hussein also highlighted Oman’s central role in mediating the sensitive discussions between Tehran and Washington.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Fuad Hussein, the Foreign Minister of Iraq, stated in an interview with Al Jazeera network that he sincerely hopes the ongoing discussions between Iran and the United States will achieve positive outcomes, ultimately leading to a constructive accord that serves the interests of both countries and the wider region.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized the crucial need for all parties involved to support the negotiation process and ensure its continuity. He confirmed that Oman is actively engaged in mediating between Iran and the US, adding that Baghdad maintains necessary coordination channels with Muscat regarding these efforts.

Fuad Hussein, who has been nominated by the Kurdistan Democratic Party for the Iraqi presidency, characterized the current dialogue between the leaders of the US and Iran as a positive step moving in the correct direction. Furthermore, he expressed confidence in his strong prospects of securing the backing of various political blocs and factions within the Iraqi Parliament necessary for his success in the upcoming presidential election.

In a separate development concerning regional security, Fuad Hussein addressed the transfer of ISIS detainees from Syria to Iraq. He announced that Iraq is currently in communication with several Arab and Western nations concerning the repatriation of its citizens held in prisons under the control of the terrorist group.
