EU Dispatches Firefighting Aid to France and Spain Amidst Widespread Blazes
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Commission announced on Monday that the European Union has deployed firefighting planes, forces, and equipment to France and Spain in response to widespread wildfires. These infernos have resulted in the displacement of over 300,000 individuals and necessitated one of Europe’s largest evacuation efforts.
The assistance was channeled and dispatched through the “European Union Civil Protection Mechanism,” as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
Seven aircraft and four helicopters from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, and Turkey have been sent to France. Additionally, six aircraft from Greece, Italy, and Turkey, along with 134 personnel and 41 vehicles from Portugal, have been dispatched to Spain.
Previously, the newspaper Tribune de Genève, citing the Swiss Ministry of Defense, reported that French authorities had requested assistance from Switzerland to help contain unprecedented fires using their helicopters.
The scope of the wildfires in France has also expanded, posing a threat to four facilities belonging to the ArianeGroup, including a workshop for M51 ballistic missile fuel. The French Ministry of Defense had stated that police and military forces were enlisted to help contain these fires.
