Saudi Arabian crude oil exports via the Red Sea are facing severe disruptions, with tanker traffic in the crucial waterway almost entirely halted. Maritime intelligence specialist Lloyd’s List reported that no crude oil tankers have been recorded on this route since July 23. This situation has led to concerns over prolonged and more costly alternative export routes for the Kingdom.
The disruption intensified as at least 11 oil tankers were observed near Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu port with their tracking systems deactivated, following Yemen’s declaration of a maritime blockade. Lloyd’s List warned that these disruptions pose a significant risk to Saudi Arabia’s oil export logistics, potentially forcing the nation to utilize longer and more expensive transit paths.
Further underscoring the impact on Saudi energy infrastructure, Sentinel-2, a company specializing in satellite imagery analysis, indicated that captured visuals revealed smoke and damage at the Abqaiq oil processing facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia.
