Iraq Convenes Emergency Security Meeting After U.S.-Saudi Airstrikes on Popular Mobilization Forces
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an emergency security meeting has been convened in Iraq following U.S.-Saudi airstrikes conducted on the morning of October 16, 2026, against positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces. Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Al-Zaidi, issued the directive for the extraordinary session.
The meeting will focus on deliberating the security developments within Iraq and formulating necessary decisions. A statement is expected to be released after the session concludes.
Meanwhile, Al Mayadeen network’s correspondent reported that during the transfer of the bodies of PMF martyrs in Nineveh province, Iraqi citizens gathered outside Al-Hamdaniyah Hospital, chanting slogans against Saudi Arabia and the Zionist regime.
The aggressor U.S.-Saudi forces launched aerial attacks on PMF bases in the provinces of Karbala, Nineveh, and Mosul earlier today. Iraqi sources confirmed that resistance bases in the city of Amerli in Salah al-Din province and the town of Dibs in Kirkuk province, northern Iraq, were also targeted in the Saudi-American attacks.
Initial reports from Iraqi sources indicate that ten members of the 30th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces were martyred in the Saudi-American attacks.
