Dozens of Israeli Soldiers Desert Timan Base in Protest

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media outlets have reported that dozens of soldiers and commanders from the Givati Brigade have surrendered their weapons and departed the Timan base without permission in a protest action. Over 100 soldiers are said to have participated in this move.

The decision to leave is reportedly linked to an incident where a battalion commander broke metallic plaques containing motivational slogans for the platoons and companies in front of his troops. Following this event, soldiers and commanders left the base with their personal belongings, heading home without their equipment or weapons.

The Israeli newspaper ‘Israel Hayom’ reported that approximately 100 soldiers from the Givati Brigade left the Sde Timan detention facility after a dispute with their battalion commander, leaving their weapons behind. The newspaper ‘Maariv’, citing an Israeli military source, stated that the soldiers’ withdrawal from Sde Timan is unprecedented and has rendered their battalion operationally unfit. The unrest at Sde Timan stemmed from veteran soldiers’ attempts to impose their own rules within the Tzabar battalion, which was preparing for an operation in the Gaza Strip but is now deemed non-operational.

The Israeli army acknowledged the incident, stating that soldiers from a combat battalion left their military base without commanders’ permission. The departure of soldiers from the Sde Timan base is under investigation, and the army has indicated that the events do not align with its values.
