US Defense Department Turns to Startups to Replenish Arms Stockpile

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Washington Post has reported that the Pentagon is relying on emerging defense companies to replenish its arms stockpile, which has been significantly depleted due to the war in Iran.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized the nation’s urgent need to refill its armories during a meeting in late July with over ten defense technology firms. During the session, Hegseth urged company executives to identify the primary obstacles hindering increased production.

Several executives pointed to the slow pace of contract signings within the Pentagon, as well as challenges in securing the initial funding required for expanding production lines and financing research and development initiatives. The newspaper noted that despite the Trump administration’s efforts to enhance collaboration with defense technology startups, it remains uncertain whether these companies can rapidly scale their operations to meet demand.

The U.S. military campaign against Iran has severely reduced Washington’s reserves of weapons and interceptor missiles.
