Egypt Investigates Vessel Attack, Denounces False Reports

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Egypt announced on Saturday that investigations are actively underway to determine the cause and responsible party behind an incident that struck two ships at a port. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement indicating that certain foreign media outlets have disseminated false and misleading information concerning the event. The ministry emphasized that inquiries continue to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those accountable. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged both foreign media and journalists in Egypt and abroad to rely on official sources for information pertaining to Egyptian affairs and this specific incident. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stated on Thursday that authorities are still examining the drone attack that targeted two vessels at the Damietta port, simultaneously calling for de-escalation in the region to prevent further deterioration of the security situation. On Wednesday afternoon, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum reported a fire aboard two liquefied gas vessels at Damietta port but did not specify the cause. British maritime security firm Ambrey stated that a drone attack targeted a floating liquefied natural gas storage facility, flagged by the Marshall Islands and belonging to an American entity, at the port.
