US Treasury Secretary Scott Bennett’s ‘Action Items’ Reveal Potential Yen Purchases

A photograph from a US cabinet meeting revealed that Treasury Secretary Scott Bennett was considering Japan Yen purchases valued between $5 to $10 billion, indicating potential currency market intervention.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a photograph taken by Reuters during a Donald Trump cabinet meeting at Camp David shows U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bennett displaying a list of ‘Action Items’ that included considering the purchase of Japanese Yen worth $5 to $10 billion.

The image, captured from behind Bennett during the public portion of the meeting, depicts a note at Camp David with the heading ‘Action Items’ underlined, followed by the specific item: ‘Buy JPY 5-10B’.

No other details were visible on the note, though Bennett’s name was discernible on the conference table at Camp David, positioned above the memo. The photograph was taken at 11:33 AM Eastern Time (3:33 PM International Time).

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of the Treasury did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment regarding the content of the note or whether the Treasury had intervened on Friday to bolster the Yen’s value against the dollar.
