Israeli Army’s 401st Armored Brigade Withdraws from Southern Lebanon After Eight Months

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli army declared today that forces from the 401st Brigade, operating under the 91st Division, have completed their military operations in southern Lebanon. The brigade had been deployed in the area for eight months.

The Israeli military stated that these forces undertook both defensive and offensive missions with the objective of neutralizing threats against Israel in southern Lebanon. The statement claimed that during their operations, the brigade’s forces destroyed over 1200 Hezbollah infrastructure sites, including hundreds of meters of underground tunnels, in collaboration with the “Yahalom” special combat engineering unit. Additionally, they reported discovering more than 600 weapons and neutralizing over 60 Hezbollah operatives.

These claims by the Israeli army come amid reports of casualties within its own ranks. Since March 2026, nine officers and soldiers from the 401st Brigade have been killed in southern Lebanon. Furthermore, several soldiers, including Colonel Meir Biederman, the former commander of the brigade, were severely injured in a Hezbollah drone attack in May.

This development follows a similar announcement on July 12 (21 Tir), when the Israeli army reported the withdrawal of forces from the 551st Paratrooper Brigade, also under the command of the 91st Division, after a two-month operation in southern Lebanon.
