Japan Urges Military Buildup Amid Escalating China, Russia, North Korea Ties

Japan’s Defense Minister called for an urgent military enhancement as a new assessment highlights growing security threats from China, North Korea, and Russia, noting expanding military cooperation between these nations.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Japan‘s Defense Minister announced on Tuesday that the nation must bolster its military capabilities with a “sense of urgency and crisis.” These remarks coincided with the release of Tokyo’s latest assessment, which once again underscores the escalating security risks posed by China, North Korea, and Russia.

Japan is currently increasing its military budget and security cooperation in Asia, deploying missile launch systems on remote islands, pursuing “counterattack” capabilities, and easing regulations on arms exports.

However, Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized that it is “extremely vital for Tokyo to strengthen and transform its defense capabilities with a greater sense of urgency than ever before.”

He added that within the Asia-Pacific region, “not only are China and North Korea further enhancing their military capabilities, but the cooperation between China and Russia, and between Russia and North Korea, is also expanding.”
