US Military Production Lagging Behind Arms Deal Deadlines, Congress Report Reveals

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a report presented to the U.S. Congress reveals that the actual volume of production within the American military industry is significantly behind the established timelines for arms contracts. Washington allocated $45.78 billion to replace weapons supplied to Ukraine in 2022. By the end of March 2026, contracts valued at over 90 percent of this sum, equivalent to $41.47 billion, had been signed. However, actual payments to manufacturers have not exceeded 41 percent of the contract value, amounting to $17.1 billion.

Under the terms of U.S. government contracts, contractors receive payments only after completing work stages, incurring costs, or delivering final products. Consequently, the amount of payments made directly reflects the actual progress in weapons production. The report also emphasizes that arms shipments from the United States to Ukraine have decreased fivefold since the Biden administration’s tenure.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously stated that any arms shipments destined for Ukraine would be considered a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin has also indicated that the arming of Ukraine by Western countries will have a counterproductive effect on negotiations and leave negative impacts on the resolution of the crisis.
