US Nuclear Strategy Shifts Focus to China and Russia

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, NBC News reported on Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Defense is working on a new military strategy that will focus on efforts against China and Russia.

Citing five individuals familiar with the matter, this new strategy will address the potential use of short-range tactical weapons in the event of a regional conflict between the United States and either China or Russia. These sources indicated that Albridge Colby, head of policy planning at the Department of Defense, is overseeing this strategy, which emphasizes the potential deployment of short-range tactical weapons should a regional conflict arise.

Colby, whose new strategy deviates from long-standing directives, is expected to attend a military event in Nebraska on Wednesday to share his insights. He will also privately visit U.S. Strategic Command, which is responsible for nuclear forces managing land-based missiles, strategic bombers, and submarines.

The current strategy states that China should not be permitted to leverage its expanding nuclear arsenal to increase its influence in the Indo-Pacific region. The U.S. also remains prepared to respond if Russia poses a greater threat to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Under the proposed new plan, it is understood that the nuclear response options presented to the U.S. President during a crisis are likely to be updated.

The Pentagon has previously warned that the United States faces two major nuclear rivals simultaneously: China and Russia.
