Global Food Prices Surge to Three-Year High Amid Geopolitical Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has confirmed a significant increase in global food prices during July, marking the highest point in the past three years. This surge is attributed to a combination of unfavorable weather patterns and heightened geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea.

The report from the FAO, as cited by Al Mayadeen and published by the Mehr News Agency, highlights that the sharp rise in food prices worldwide is a direct consequence of geopolitical conflicts. Prominent among these are the actions by the United States against Iran, along with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

FAO experts have issued a stark warning, indicating that the world is bracing for a new wave of inflation and a subsequent escalation in food prices. These experts emphasized that the ongoing geopolitical instability is severely disrupting global supply chains and impacting food security.

The report specifically notes that the United States’ interventions concerning Iran have led to disruptions in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to a global price increase, especially for food and fuel commodities.
