Turkish Parliament Approves Law to Support Peace Process with PKK

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkey‘s Parliament has approved a law aimed at supporting the peace process with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The ruling Justice and Development Party had presented a bill to parliament on August 5, 2026, proposing the dissolution of the PKK.

Turkish media reports indicate that the National Security Council of Turkey will oversee the implementation of the bill’s provisions, including the dissolution of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the disarmament of its fighters. The legislation stipulates that members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party who have not participated in operations resulting in fatalities will not face prosecution upon their return to Turkey.

Furthermore, the law establishes a committee to supervise its execution. This committee will comprise the Vice President, cabinet ministers, and the head of Turkey’s Intelligence Organization. Previously, on May 12, 2025, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party announced the dissolution of its organizational structure, signaling an end to four decades of armed conflict with the Turkish government.
