US Explores European Ammunition Integration for HIMARS

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the publication Euractiv reported that the United States is examining the possibility of issuing permits to adapt European launch systems for compatibility with U.S.-manufactured shells and missiles.

Euractiv stated that this initiative could address a key challenge within NATO and contribute to improved ammunition exchange among allies. Currently, several member nations of the alliance possess American HIMARS multiple rocket launcher systems.

The report further indicated that some countries utilize Israeli PULS systems or are in the process of developing their indigenous systems. This diversity in launch platforms has created significant challenges in ammunition standardization, as each system requires its specific shells and missiles.

Euractiv’s report emphasized that Washington’s previous opposition to such integration was primarily commercial in nature. American ammunition manufacturers sought to maintain exclusive supply rights for their systems. However, the U.S. stance is reportedly shifting, with a growing inclination towards deploying a greater portion of its missile industry infrastructure within Europe.
