US Treasury Secretary Accuses Iran of Facing Unprecedented Economic Isolation

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has intensified the administration’s economic pressure campaign against Iran, claiming the nation is facing its ‘greatest economic isolation in history.’ Bessent urged global allies to cease engagement with the Iranian government, as the U.S. continues to implement stringent sanctions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has made new accusations against Iran, asserting that Washington’s adversarial policies are leading the country to face “the greatest economic isolation in its history.” Bessent’s statements, reported by Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency, suggest a renewed focus on intensifying economic pressure.

The Treasury Secretary further contended that it is time for Iran’s allies and other nations worldwide to cease all engagement with the ruling system in Iran. He also commented on the Strait of Hormuz, claiming without acknowledging U.S. difficulties in its opening, that the United States controls the strait and that significant quantities of oil transit through the region.

Continuing his rhetoric, Bessent stated, “We are imposing the harshest sanctions on Iran, and this action will lead to the collapse of the system!” The American minister also addressed efforts to reduce oil prices, linking them to U.S. actions against Iran, and claimed that oil prices would decline.

It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced severe hostile economic measures against Iran.
