Israel Escalates Attacks on Syria, Targeting Airfield Amid Regional Realignment

The Israeli military has intensified its aggression within Syrian territory, launching strikes against the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport in Idlib province. This escalation occurs as regional powers, including Iran and the United States, engage in ongoing indirect talks concerning the future of the Middle East.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, recent data published by the Mehr News Agency, citing the Al-Ahed website, indicates that despite Syrian statements of non-aggression towards Israel and Damascus seeking a security agreement, the Israeli regime is steadily expanding its presence within Syria, advancing close to the capital, Damascus.

The Israeli army is further violating Syrian sovereignty by establishing fixed and mobile checkpoints, conducting patrols deep within Syrian territory, raiding homes, and abducting Syrian citizens to unknown locations. Although Syrian television has broadcast images of these Israeli transgressions, the Israeli leadership has yet to lodge a complaint with the United Nations Security Council to condemn these nearly daily incursions.

The report highlighted the recent Israeli attack on the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport in the southeastern suburbs of Idlib, asserting that the regime’s true objectives behind these actions are evident, even with Syria’s disarmament and Damascus’s participation in peace talks and security agreements with the Israeli enemy. The ultimate goal, it suggests, is to shape the future of the entire region, including Syria and Lebanon.

Al-Ahed further suggests that Tel Aviv may escalate its attacks against Syria and Lebanon before any potential agreement between Iran and the United States concludes the conflict in the region. This move by the occupying regime aims to solidify its presence within a new regional influence map that is being drawn in light of continued indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington regarding the region’s future.

Informed sources revealed that the attack on Abu al-Duhur Airport occurred amidst reports of military equipment being transferred by Turkish forces into Syria. While the specific type of equipment remains undisclosed, it is speculated to include radar and air defense weaponry. This equipment was reportedly moved to Abu al-Duhur Airport, located near the Turkish-Syrian border in Syria’s Idlib province, and was immediately targeted by the Israeli air force.

These sources unequivocally emphasized that the Israeli regime will not permit Ankara to deploy air defense systems and similar equipment on Syrian soil in the near future, especially under the guise of rebuilding Syria’s air force.

The sources pointed out that one of Turkey’s potential roles in Syria could involve participating in the defense of Syrian airspace against foreign attacks, a development that poses a problem for the Israeli regime. While an old Syrian air squadron cannot alter Israel’s air superiority, the involvement of a NATO member in training, arming, and rebuilding air defenses could gradually bring about such a shift. The presence of modern radar and air defense systems, trained pilots, and reconstruction bases would complicate and increase the cost of Israeli operations over Syria.

Citing Israel’s past opposition to the U.S. military presence in Syria, these sources recalled that in 2025, Turkey was evaluating three Syrian airports – T4, Palmyra, and Hama – for potential use within hypothetical defense arrangements with the Syrian government. However, the Israeli regime subsequently bombed these sites, targeting the runway, control tower, hangars, and aircraft at T4, rendering the base unusable.
