US Envoy Suggests Israeli Syria Strike Stemmed From Misinformation

A senior U.S. envoy has suggested that recent Israeli strikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria were likely the result of a misunderstanding or lack of coordination within Israeli intelligence circles.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq, Tom Barrak, stated in a press briefing that Israel‘s aggression against the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria in recent days was most likely due to a misunderstanding or miscommunication among Israeli parties. He added that increased tensions between Turkey and the Israeli regime are not beneficial to either side. One theory suggested a misunderstanding between the Israeli army, Mossad, and Netanyahu’s office regarding this operation, which ultimately led to its execution. Barrak noted that perhaps Roman Gofman, the head of Mossad, was managing a confidential and critical communication channel that had not yet reached its conclusion. In the interim, an Israeli commander, based on their assessment of available intelligence, decided immediate action was necessary. He continued that one party may have intercepted telephone intelligence regarding Turkey’s intentions in Syria, prompting a commander to undertake the said operation to prevent it. Another theory posits that the Israeli regime was attempting to lure Turkey into a trap. While highly aggressive, this scenario could be well-received in the context of an election campaign, especially with the Israeli parliamentary elections approaching next October. Barrak also claimed that the Israeli regime had not informed the United States or Turkey of this operation. Tel Aviv notified the U.S. six days prior to the operation, stating it had obtained certain intelligence, but Washington insisted the information was inaccurate. It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, the Israeli regime targeted Syria’s Abu al-Duhur airport with eight attacks, citing the presence of Turkish military forces.
