Oman and Germany Discuss Regional Developments and Maritime Security

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Oman‘s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Germany’s Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, engaged in a telephone conversation on Saturday to address regional transformations and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. The discussion, as reported by Al Jazeera and cited by Mehr News Agency, focused on coordinated actions aimed at reducing tensions, preventing conflict escalation, and enhancing regional security and stability.

This dialogue occurs as Oman has actively played a mediating role in recent weeks, striving to restore safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. In August, Oman and Iran had previously discussed a phased framework to resume secure navigation in this vital waterway, which included establishing a temporary shipping corridor and cooperating on mine clearance operations.

However, a planned meeting between Iran and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council states regarding navigation mechanisms in the Strait of Hormuz was postponed last week, with no new date announced. Shipping data released by Reuters indicates that the transit of cargo vessels through the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below pre-crisis averages.
