Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Highlights Unprecedented Regional Security Amidst Calls for Restraint

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Bahrain‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, declared on Friday at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that the region’s security is in an unprecedented state, and that the region’s countries are committed to the highest levels of self-restraint.

Referring to the Strait of Hormuz, Al Zayani announced Bahrain’s opposition to the imposition of any tolls or mandatory permits for passage through this waterway. He added that the existence of a temporary alternative route does not negate the right of passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

He also emphasized the implementation of international resolutions regarding waterways.

The Bahraini Foreign Minister welcomed the establishment of a multinational maritime defense coalition led by Saudi Arabia, stating that ensuring the security of maritime passages is a collective responsibility and should not be subject to bilateral understandings.

He indicated that the consequences of regional conflicts extend beyond borders, pointing to their impact on energy and food prices, as well as supply chains.

In another part of his speech, Al Zayani stressed support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria and called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and the achievement of a political solution to end the country’s crisis.
