Kremlin Eyes Putin Meetings with US, China Leaders at APEC Summit
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could potentially meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Peskov stated that the APEC summit offers a valuable opportunity for leaders to engage in dialogue. He noted that it remains unclear whether these interactions would materialize as a distinct trilateral meeting or as separate bilateral encounters.
Peskov further elaborated that Putin and Xi Jinping have previously agreed to a meeting in China, and the upcoming APEC summit presents a fitting occasion to fulfill this arrangement. The Kremlin anticipates President Putin’s participation in the APEC summit, with his schedule for attendance having been previously communicated.
Regarding bilateral relations between Russia and the United States, Peskov commented that the current state of these relations is “not at its best.”
The Kremlin spokesperson also issued a warning concerning the potential deployment of satellite systems by SpaceX for strikes deep within Russian territory, describing such an action as “highly damaging, dangerous, and ill-considered.”
Earlier, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, had also suggested the possibility of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Xi Jinping, and Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit.
The APEC leaders’ summit is scheduled to take place on November 18th and 19th in Shenzhen, China.
In a related development, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously stated that Washington had invited Putin to attend the G20 summit in the United States. Peskov acknowledged Russia’s appreciation for this invitation and indicated that it would be considered.
