Romanian Airspace Breached Near Ukraine Border, F-16s Scramble

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Romania‘s Ministry of National Defence announced that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled after an aerial target violated the country’s airspace early Monday. The incident occurred on the evening of September 27, when an aerial target entered Romanian airspace near the Ukrainian border and remained in the area for approximately ten minutes.

The Ministry of National Defence stated that the aerial target entered Romanian airspace from the ‘Chetalchioi’ region on the evening of September 27. After about ten minutes, its signal disappeared from radar near ‘Sulina’.

Since the commencement of the war in Ukraine, Romania has repeatedly experienced incursions by drones or aerial targets associated with Russian attacks into Ukraine, breaching its airspace. In recent months, several instances of drones entering the country’s airspace have been reported. In some of these cases, F-16 fighter jets from the Romanian Air Force were deployed to intercept and monitor the targets. In one recent incident on September 24, a drone flew into Romanian airspace for approximately four minutes before crashing in the Suceava county.
