Macron Admits Europe’s Dependence on Russian Gas
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron declared at an economic forum in Madrid that Europe has forfeited a crucial part of its industrial competitiveness due to the cessation of Russian gas imports.
Macron pointed to the energy crisis gripping Europe, observing that cheap Russian gas had historically been instrumental in powering Central Europe’s industrial sector. This region, serving as the continent’s manufacturing hub, in turn bolstered other economic areas.
He further noted that developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz have once again underscored European nations’ vulnerability to fossil fuel dependence. Macron advocated for the establishment of an integrated energy market across Europe and the equitable distribution of financial burdens for major energy projects.
The French President also emphasized that Europe should shift its focus from the origin of energy to utilizing low-carbon resources produced domestically within the continent.
