Netherlands Criticizes Israel’s Diplomatic Move Amidst Growing Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Netherlands has criticized Israel’s decision to revoke the accreditation of its diplomatic mission in the West Bank. The Israeli measure was reportedly taken in retaliation for the Dutch government’s actions aimed at products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including a ban on goods from these settlements.
Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom de Bruijn, expressed regret over Israel’s decision, deeming it unnecessary. He clarified that the Netherlands’ suspension of imports from settlements was not intended to target Israel directly.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gidon Sa’ar, announced on Sunday evening the withdrawal of diplomatic accreditation for Dutch diplomats stationed in Ramallah, home to the Palestinian Authority. This marks a significant escalation in diplomatic friction between the two countries.
This is not the first time Israel has taken punitive action against the Netherlands. In August, Tel Aviv expelled Dutch diplomats from a coordination center located in the Gaza Strip.
Previously, in September, the occupying power had closed the British Consulate in East Jerusalem. This action followed London’s decision to prohibit the import of goods and products manufactured by Israeli settlers.
In response to increasingly assertive decisions and stances taken by European countries, including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, against products and goods from settlements in the occupied West Bank, Tel Aviv has implemented reciprocal diplomatic measures against these nations.
