ICC Condemns U.S. Sanctions, Appeals for Member State Support

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has strongly condemned sanctions imposed by the United States, urging member states to ensure the court can continue its work. The ICC stated the sanctions are an attack on the rule of law and the foundations of international legal order.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday, October 9, issued a strong condemnation of sanctions imposed by the U.S. government. The court appealed to its member states to ensure its continued functionality.

In a statement, the ICC declared that the U.S. action represents an attempt to disrupt the administration of justice and impede the court’s mandated functions, characterizing it as an assault on the rule of law and the bedrock of the international legal order.

The ICC reaffirmed its commitment to fully executing its mission, which involves prosecuting individuals accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression. This mandate is particularly relevant in cases where member states are unwilling or unable to pursue such cases themselves.

However, the court cautioned that it cannot proceed alone and called upon member states to provide the necessary resources and support for its operations. The United States is not a member state of the ICC.

The statement from the institution read: “The Court cannot stand alone. Its fate now rests, in part, with the states that founded this institution.”

The International Criminal Court further emphasized that the issue extends beyond defending a single institution, encompassing the protection of the international order grounded in the rule of law, adding that history will judge this juncture.
