US Imposes Sanctions on International Criminal Court, Citing Citizen Protection

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the administration of President Donald Trump has implemented sanctions against the International Criminal Court. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the measures, asserting that President Trump will not permit the court to prosecute American citizens.
Rubio elaborated that these sanctions prohibit any transactions with the ICC, target its financial resources, and will undermine the institution’s capacity to take action against the United States. He further stated that Washington expects its allies, including member states of the ICC who rely on the U.S. for their security, to contain the court. Rubio warned that if the ICC is not contained, the U.S. will continue its efforts to dismantle it.
In response to these actions, Nazhat Shameem Khan, Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, condemned the U.S. sanctions, declaring that these measures will not halt the institution’s activities. Speaking to Reuters in The Hague, Khan stated, “These sanctions are imposed with the aim of undermining the rule of law internationally and the activities of an independent judicial institution.” She emphasized, “Our work will continue in all cases, investigations, and prosecutions.”
