Over 200 Migrants Dead or Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Djibouti Coast

At least 109 migrants have died and 116 are missing following the capsizing of a boat off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Sunday, with the vessel reportedly en route to Yemen.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, at least 109 migrants have lost their lives and 116 remain missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an agency of the United Nations, reported on Sunday. The incident occurred as the boat, carrying an estimated 350 individuals, was traveling from Djibouti towards Yemen.

The IOM, citing survivor testimonies, stated that the ill-fated vessel capsized north of the town of Obock in Djibouti. The organization disclosed that the death toll from the maritime disaster on the night of October 8th and 9th had reached at least 109, with an additional 116 people unaccounted for.

Teams from the IOM are currently providing support to local authorities engaged in emergency rescue operations at the scene.
