Russia’s Air Sanctions Harm US Companies, Says Senior Diplomat

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Alexander Gusarov, head of the North Atlantic Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized that the resumption of direct flights between Russia and the US has been delayed for an extended period. In an interview with the newspaper Izvestia, Gusarov noted that such a step could visibly signal improved bilateral relations and the restoration of mutual trust between the two governments.
Gusarov expressed hope that the American side would demonstrate the necessary political will to lift what he described as a ‘fruitless’ air blockade against Russia. He stressed that normalizing air traffic with Russia would primarily benefit the US aviation sector.
The Russian official highlighted that one consequence of these policies has been the inability of American airlines to utilize Russian airspace, ultimately weakening their competitive position against carriers from other countries. Gusarov called for an expedited, non-political, and unconditional dialogue between relevant authorities in both nations to address technical obstacles hindering the resumption of flights.
