Poll Reveals US Global Image Worse Than Americans Believe, Allies Question Democratic Principles

A recent poll encompassing the United States and four major allied nations indicates a significant disparity between American perceptions of their country’s global standing and the views held by citizens of key international partners, with many allies expressing doubts about America’s commitment to democratic values and its reliability during crises.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, data published by Mehr News Agency reveals a substantial gap between how Americans view their nation and the perceptions held by citizens in many of America’s allied countries. A survey conducted by the American website Politico across the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom concluded that the United States’ international image is considerably more negative than Americans themselves believe.

The poll, which surveyed 10,289 adults between February 6th and 9th, highlighted growing concerns among U.S. allies regarding the nation’s adherence to democratic principles. Politico noted that while Washington often portrays itself as a champion of democracy both domestically and internationally, allies are increasingly questioning whether the U.S. still upholds these democratic tenets.

The findings indicate that a significant portion of citizens in allied nations perceive the U.S. as a threat to global stability. This view was shared by a relative majority of 43 percent in Canada, among other allies. Furthermore, non-American citizens in allied countries expressed a lack of confidence in the U.S.’s reliability during times of crisis. Specifically, 57 percent in Canada, 51 percent in Germany, 47 percent in France, and 42 percent in the United Kingdom held this opinion.
