Trump Criticizes Pope and Chicago Mayor Over Iran Stance and Meeting

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has again targeted Pope Leo XIV and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, criticizing their recent Vatican meeting and discussing Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has criticized Pope Leo XIV and Brandon Johnson following their meeting at the Vatican. Trump stated that someone should explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is a useless individual.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, ‘Someone needs to explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is useless and Iran should not acquire nuclear weapons!’ He also reshared images from Johnson’s meeting with the Pope. These images showed the Chicago Mayor gifting the Pope a small city flag and both holding a Chicago Cubs baseball team cap. This is noteworthy as Pope Leo XIV is known to be a supporter of the White Sox team.

Trump’s latest remarks escalate his past tensions with the Pope. Previously, the former U.S. President had criticized the Pope’s disapproval of the war against Iran and his positions on immigration and social issues. He had also stated he did not want a Pope who believed Iran could attain nuclear weapons. Trump had also voiced opposition to the Pope’s stance against certain U.S. administration policies, including military and immigration actions.

Conversely, Pope Leo had previously declared he has no fear of the Trump administration and will continue to speak frankly about the messages of the Gospels and humanitarian matters. His meeting with Brandon Johnson in the Vatican primarily focused on topics such as social justice, immigration, support for vulnerable populations, and humanitarian cooperation.

In response to Trump’s comments, the Mayor of Chicago stated that the citizens of Chicago are tired of Trump’s ‘war’ against Iran and that his policies have made life more difficult for working families.
