Russian Official Links Ukraine Talks Resumption to Iran Developments

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a Russian official, whose identity has not been disclosed, has emphasized that the continuation of talks regarding Ukraine is now tied to the trajectory of developments in Iran. This statement comes in the context of the United States suspending negotiations related to the conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian official asserted that the U.S. currently lacks the opportunity to pursue a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine crisis, primarily due to its complete engagement in the Middle East. The official further elaborated that until the dispute involving Iran reaches a logical conclusion, it will be challenging for the United States to actively participate in other significant international matters.
Predicting the timeline for such a development remains impossible, the official noted, with the process potentially concluding very soon, perhaps as early as tomorrow, or after several months. This statement follows previous remarks from Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, who had indicated Moscow’s full readiness to achieve an agreement aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict.
Sergey Ryabkov, however, had underscored that a final agreement would not be attainable without addressing the root causes of the crisis, emphasizing the need to focus on the core issue. He stated that Russia is fully prepared and anticipates a similar approach from the opposing side.
The senior Russian official argued that Ukraine and its European backers, unwilling to seek a peaceful solution, have intensified their efforts to derail the peace process precisely when parties were nearing an agreement. Ryabkov specifically pointed to December 25, 2025, as a potential turning point where parties came close to a resolution, but stressed that achieving a final accord still depends on the efforts and political will of the other side, particularly given Kyiv’s and its financial backers, notably within the European Union, lack of interest in reaching an agreement and their attempts to divert it.
