France Urges Israel to Halt Lebanon Offensive Amidst Broader Diplomatic Push

France’s Foreign Minister has called on Israel to cease its military operations in Lebanon, urging the United States to exert pressure on Tel Aviv to end the hostilities. This appeal comes amid ongoing Israeli actions in southern Lebanon, which appear to disregard the terms of a bilateral understanding.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, France has formally requested that Israel halt its military actions within Lebanon. Jean-Noël Barrot, the French Foreign Minister, issued this appeal on Friday, citing the need to end the ongoing hostilities.

The French Foreign Minister’s statement, while calling for an end to the Israeli operations, did not explicitly condemn the continued Israeli aggressions against Lebanon. Barrot also suggested that Washington should increase its diplomatic pressure on Tel Aviv to bring about a cessation of these attacks. He further indicated that France remains committed to organizing an international conference aimed at securing financial and political support for the Lebanese army.

This call for de-escalation aligns with stipulations reportedly outlined in a 14-point memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, which emphasizes the cessation of conflict across all fronts, including Lebanon. Despite the existence of this understanding, Israel has reportedly continued its incursions into southern Lebanon, seemingly disregarding the agreed-upon terms that stress the necessity of halting warfare.

Sources indicate that U.S. President Donald Trump and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, have engaged with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had previously maintained a stance against withdrawing from southern Lebanon. Both leaders have reportedly encouraged Netanyahu to adopt a more rational approach concerning Lebanon.
