US to Host Fifth Round of Lebanon-Israel Maritime Border Talks in Washington

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. State Department has announced that the fifth round of negotiations between Lebanon and the Israeli regime will be held in Washington from June 23 to 25. This announcement comes as reported by Al Jazeera, citing the Mehr News Agency.
These negotiations are a continuation of four previous rounds that commenced in April with U.S. mediation, aiming to achieve an agreement between the two parties. Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, stated in a release that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the upcoming round of talks in a phone call with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. According to Pigott, the parties are set to consult in Washington on advancing a process that the U.S. refers to as a move towards ‘lasting peace’.
The statement also highlighted the U.S. Secretary of State’s affirmation of Washington’s support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to bolster national sovereignty and progress towards stability and economic improvement.
The announcement of the new round of negotiations occurs amidst escalating tensions in Lebanon. On Friday, the Israeli regime’s army conducted over 106 attacks in various Lebanese regions, resulting in dozens of casualties and injuries.
During the fourth round of these negotiations, held in Washington in early June, the U.S. reported that both sides agreed to a ceasefire and the establishment of ‘experimental zones.’ This measure was introduced amid intensified Israeli regime attacks on southern Lebanon.
