Turkish Demonstrators Demand NATO Dissolution Amidst Ankara Summit Protests

Activists in Istanbul protested against NATO’s upcoming summit in Ankara, calling for the closure of foreign military bases and Turkey’s immediate withdrawal from the alliance. Demonstrators condemned NATO as a ‘bloody imperialist organization.’

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish anti-NATO activists staged a large demonstration in front of the “Trump Towers” in Istanbul’s Sisli district to condemn the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara. Protesters demanded the closure of foreign military bases and Turkey’s swift exit from the alliance.

The rally saw the participation of several Turkish parliament members, including Özgül Saki and İskender Bayhan, both representatives for Istanbul from the Workers’ Party.

A concluding statement issued at the gathering emphasized that NATO is a “bloody imperialist organization” and refuted claims that it serves to protect Turkey’s interests. The statement asserted that nations across the region, from Iraq and Palestine to Iran and now Turkey, oppose NATO’s policies. The alliance was linked to the breakup of Yugoslavia, interventions in Libya and Afghanistan, and involvement in intelligence operations and military coups. The protesters called for NATO’s dissolution as the world’s largest warmongering organization and an end to the global arms race fueled by bloody conflicts.
