According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a devastating fire has ripped through an apartment complex in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, leading to several deaths and injuries. The incident was reported by Al Jazeera, citing information from the Mehr News Agency.

Local fire services received an urgent call at 9:53 AM local time (7:53 AM UTC) on Wednesday, reporting a “severe fire” on the eighth floor of the 10-story residential building located in the Linkeroever district on the east side of Antwerp.

Multiple fire brigades, along with ambulances and emergency response teams, were dispatched to the scene. The building is home to over 200 residents.

Authorities confirmed that firefighters are engaged in a difficult struggle to contain the fire due to its extensive scale and intensity.

Marie De Clerck, spokesperson for the Antwerp fire department, described the situation to De Brussels Times, stating, “This is a very complex fire with low visibility and thick smoke inside the building. This makes extinguishing it more difficult.”

Hundreds of residents from the surrounding area were compelled to evacuate their homes immediately as a precautionary measure against the ferocity of the fire and the risk of it spreading.
