Germany Calls for Agreement with Iran on Hormuz Strait Mine Clearance

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated on Wednesday that an agreement with Iran is necessary for mine clearance operations in the Strait of Hormuz. The German minister, while expressing Berlin’s concern about the situation in the strait, claimed that the time has come for genuine negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Baerbock made these remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera, issuing a purely verbal call for both the United States and Iran to reduce tensions.
The German Foreign Minister further added that Germany, along with other countries led by France and the United Kingdom, is prepared to conduct mine clearance operations in the Strait of Hormuz. She asserted that the current global oil supply situation is not critical and urged all parties to return to the negotiating table. Emphasizing that the crisis cannot be resolved militarily, Baerbock stated, “We must create a suitable environment for mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz, and it is necessary to reach an agreement with Iran and Oman in this regard.”
