Israel Expresses Concern Over Turkish Radar Deployment at Damascus Airport

A report by the Alma Institute has raised concerns in Tel Aviv regarding the deployment of a Turkish HTRS-100 radar system at Damascus International Airport, suggesting it could provide advanced aerial surveillance capabilities over Lebanon and northern Israel.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a report published by the Alma Institute, citing RT, highlights concerns in Tel Aviv over the installation of a Turkish HTRS-100 radar at Damascus International Airport. While officially presented as a project for modernizing civilian air navigation, the deployment of this radar could grant Ankara advanced aerial coverage and data collection capabilities over parts of Lebanon and northern occupied territories.

Syrian aviation authorities and the Turkish Ambassador to Damascus have formally introduced this initiative as an upgrade to civilian infrastructure aimed at enhancing aviation safety and air traffic management. However, an analysis of the system’s technical specifications indicates its potential utility for military and intelligence purposes.

The HTRS-100 system is reported to provide a precise three-dimensional aerial image within a radius of approximately 150 to 185 kilometers. This range not only covers Syrian airspace but extends over significant portions of Lebanon and even the northern occupied territories. From Israel’s perspective, this development poses a genuine threat to the freedom of aerial movement for the Israeli regime in the region.
