Washington Demands Formal Declaration of Strait of Hormuz Openness from Iran

Axios reports that U.S. officials have urged Iran to issue a public statement confirming the Strait of Hormuz remains open and pledging adherence to a ceasefire for commercial vessels.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mehr News Agency, citing Al Jazeera, has reported that the Axios news outlet claims several U.S. officials stated the Trump administration requested Iran issue a public statement on Saturday confirming the Strait of Hormuz is open.

The report further indicates that Washington has also asked Tehran to commit in this statement to observing a ceasefire concerning commercial ships. Axios, quoting several U.S. officials, added that the Trump administration’s request stems from efforts to ensure shipping security and the continued transit of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

This news emerges as the United States has effectively violated Article 9 of the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States by imposing new sanctions.
