Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Warns Against Black Sea Escalation

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated in Kyiv that his country does not wish for the Russia-Ukraine conflict to spill over into the Black Sea, emphasizing the unacceptability of targeting civilian infrastructure and vessels.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed on Thursday in Kyiv, during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibyaha, that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine should not expand into the Black Sea.

Fidan highlighted that targeting ports, oil tankers, and fishing boats in the Black Sea, thereby endangering civilian lives, is an unjustifiable act.

The Turkish Foreign Minister expressed his belief that pursuing and continuing the Istanbul process and Turkey’s negotiations regarding the Russia-Ukraine war would be highly beneficial.

Regarding security guarantees in the Black Sea, Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey has agreed to assume command of maritime elements, and understandings have been reached with allies on this matter.
