US Secretary of State Claims Support for Diplomacy While Accusing Iran of Non-Compliance
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed in recent developments concerning Iran that Washington remains committed to diplomacy and negotiated solutions. However, he alleged that Iran is currently not showing adequate seriousness for this approach.
Rubio did not address the pressures the Trump administration is currently facing due to the war impacting fuel prices in the United States. He asserted that Iran is experiencing severe economic problems, including high inflation and a sharp increase in food prices.
The U.S. Secretary of State also claimed that China opposes Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz and has expressed disapproval of imposing tolls for passage through this waterway.
Rubio further contended that the United States defends freedom of navigation and targets positions allegedly used for attacking vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. This claim comes as the U.S. military recently targeted several bridges and railway stations that were civilian centers.
The U.S. Secretary of State additionally claimed that ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz are being targeted by Iran. He referred to an agreement between Washington and Tehran, stating it was based on mutual adherence to commitments, but alleged that Iran violated it, rendering it invalid.
Rubio’s assertion is made despite the U.S. repeatedly violating this agreement by attacking areas within Iran following a memorandum of understanding with Islamabad. Rubio concluded by claiming that under the agreement, Iran had committed to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for navigation and was expected to issue a statement to this effect approximately a week and a half ago. However, he alleged that on the very day this statement was due, Iran targeted a ship.
