Iran and Iraq Vow to Strengthen Strategic Ties and Explore New Avenues for Cooperation

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian engaged in discussions with Ali Faleh Al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, during a bilateral meeting. Al-Sudani is on a visit to Tehran leading a high-ranking delegation. The talks focused on key issues of mutual interest and explored strategies for developing and enhancing bilateral relations.

During their meeting, both leaders underscored the profound historical, cultural, religious, and popular ties connecting the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq. They stressed the importance of preserving and strengthening this invaluable asset as a foundation for expanding strategic cooperation.

President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Al-Sudani also referenced existing joint agreements between the two countries. They identified the acceleration of the full implementation of these agreements as a significant step towards elevating relations and ensuring mutual interests. Furthermore, they highlighted the necessity of activating joint capacities in political, economic, commercial, transit, energy, and regional cooperation spheres.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continuous convergence and coordination, assessing the opening of new cooperation avenues as a strategic imperative for the future of Tehran-Baghdad relations. They stated that comprehensive development of relations would not only bolster stability, security, and prosperity for both nations but also contribute to securing the interests of the two brotherly peoples and reinforcing regional solidarity and cohesion.
