UN Chief Guterres Affirms Golan Heights Belong to Syria, Calls for International Action

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has declared that the occupied Golan Heights are Syrian territory and stressed that any violation of Syria’s territorial integrity is unacceptable, urging the international community to act through the UN Security Council.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Saturday that any violation of Syria’s territorial integrity is unacceptable and called upon the international community to take action through the United Nations Security Council. Speaking at a press conference with Asaad al-Shaybani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Golan regime, following the commencement of his three-day visit to Syria, Guterres emphasized that the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel in 1967, are Syrian soil and that any violation of Damascus’s sovereignty is inadmissible.

He reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty, demanding an end to all Israeli violations. Guterres noted that what belongs to Syrians cannot be taken from them. This visit marks the first time a UN Secretary-General has visited the country since Ban Ki-moon’s trip in 2009.

The trip also includes an on-site inspection of UN observer forces deployed in the Golan Heights, as part of efforts to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement with Israel.
