Israeli Finance Minister Announces New Settlements in West Bank

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has declared that the Israeli regime will continue constructing new settlements and outposts in the occupied West Bank, escalating expansionist policies despite international condemnation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that the regime will proceed with the construction of new settlements and outposts in the occupied West Bank while simultaneously confronting what he termed ‘enemies’ of Tel Aviv and bolstering security.

Smotrich further stated that a decision has been made to build hundreds of new housing units in the ‘Eli’ settlement, located in the West Bank, with plans to triple its size. This expansionist rhetoric comes amidst ongoing international legal challenges to Israeli settlement activities.

These declarations by Smotrich are made despite numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions, including resolutions 242 and 2334, which explicitly declare Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem illegal and a violation of international law. These settlement activities have been consistently condemned by the international community.

Furthermore, such actions pose a significant blow to the territorial integrity of the West Bank, presenting a major obstacle to the formation of an independent Palestinian state and the realization of the two-state solution. The international community views continued settlement expansion as a primary impediment to lasting peace in the region.
