Zelensky Acknowledges Trump’s Promise on Patriot Missiles Unlikely to Yield Quick Results

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged in an interview with Sky News that the swift establishment of domestic production for missiles used in American Patriot surface-to-air missile systems will not be achievable in Ukraine. He noted that while Ukraine is progressing toward developing its own national and European ballistic missile defense systems, this endeavor requires time. Zelensky also mentioned discussions with former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had agreed to grant licenses for Patriot missile production in Ukraine, but emphasized that this process is still hindered by administrative procedures and will not be immediate.

During the NATO summit in early July, Trump had discussed the possibility of authorizing the production of Patriot surface-to-air missiles in Ukraine. Subsequently, French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to offer Kyiv the opportunity to produce French Aster-30 interceptor missiles under license. However, The Sunday Telegraph reported that the authorization for producing Western weapons, including the American Patriot systems, on Ukrainian soil is unlikely to provide any immediate assistance to Kyiv this year, or potentially even next year.
