Two Out of Three Americans Oppose War Against Iran, Poll Reveals
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the latest joint survey conducted by Mehr News Agency and Ipsos, from Friday to Sunday, has revealed that only one out of every three Americans supports a war against Iran. The data, as reported by Reuters, highlights a clear public aversion to military engagement.
The poll found that 69 percent of Americans, including four out of every ten Republicans, believe that President Trump has not “clearly explained the goals of American military intervention in Iran.” This suggests a public demand for greater transparency regarding the objectives of any potential military actions.
Public opinion in the United States regarding a war against Iran has consistently remained below 40 percent since the commencement of attacks by the United States and Israel on February 28, 2026. This indicates a sustained opposition to escalating hostilities.
The survey also touched upon the upcoming congressional elections, noting that Democratic candidates are receiving more support among independent voters. Specifically, 36 percent of independent voters favored Democratic candidates, while 20 percent supported Republican candidates. Furthermore, independent voters have assessed the economic performance of the Democrats more favorably than that of the Republicans.
Since mid-March 2026, Reuters/Ipsos surveys have been questioning participants on their support for or opposition to military attacks against Iran. At that time, 37 percent of respondents supported such actions. However, on the day the war began, support dropped to 27 percent, with 29 percent of respondents stating they had no opinion on the matter.
This survey was conducted online across the United States, with a statistical sample of 1,246 American adults. The margin of error for the results is approximately 3 percent, underscoring the reliability of the findings.
