Islamic Jihad: Ceasefire Ineffective Against Israeli Aggression in Gaza

The Islamic Jihad movement has declared that the current ceasefire is incapable of halting Israeli atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing unwavering commitment to resistance amidst escalating tensions and alleged violations of the truce by Tel Aviv.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement has reiterated its dedication to the path of resistance in a statement commemorating the sixth anniversary of the passing of Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, the movement’s former Secretary-General. The statement, drawing on data published by Mehr News Agency and cited by Al Mayadeen, asserts that the occupying regime continues its aggressions against the Palestinian people, openly and flagrantly before the eyes of all parties, including the “Peace Council” and mediators.

The movement contends that the persistent escalation of actions and the violation of the ceasefire agreement by Tel Aviv reinforce the belief that existing agreements and proposed formulas are insufficient to restrain the Zionist regime and halt its aggressions against Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Islamic Jihad stressed that the current escalation places all parties before their responsibilities, testing the seriousness with which they intend to compel the Zionist regime to adhere to the initial phase of the agreement. The movement also underscored the necessity of fully implementing the first phase, which includes halting attacks, killings, destruction, and assassinations, before any transition to a new phase.

Earlier, the Hamas movement had also emphasized that “the implementation of the second phase of the agreement is contingent upon the occupying regime’s commitment to implementing all provisions of the first phase.” Hamas indicated that “agreement to include the heavy weapons file within the framework of the agreement is conditional upon a halt to all forms of aggression and withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.” Hamas’s agreement to move to the second phase is further conditioned on the “entry of an administrative committee, the deployment of international protection forces, the dissolution of armed gangs and militias formed by the occupying regime, and reconstruction.” Guaranteeing the right to self-determination, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the protection of citizens’ rights are also among Hamas’s prerequisites for proceeding to the second phase.

Despite the declaration of a “ceasefire,” the occupying Zionist regime continues its genocidal actions in the Gaza Strip, leading to an increasing number of martyrs, injured, and missing persons.
