Yemen’s Houthi Forces Claim Missile Strike on Saudi Oil Tanker in Gulf of Aden
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the spokesperson for the Yemeni armed forces, Yahya Saree, has confirmed that a ballistic missile targeted the Saudi-owned oil tanker Daisy in the Gulf of Aden. Saree stated that the missile struck the tanker, forcing it to alter its course.
He further explained that the operation was conducted as part of Yemen’s response to Saudi Arabia’s maritime sanctions, following a principle of “blockade against blockade.” Saree emphasized that the Yemeni forces are closely monitoring all movements of Saudi oil tankers.
Saree added that no Saudi vessels will be permitted passage through the southern Red Sea or the northern maritime routes. This stance will persist until all legitimate demands of the Yemeni people are met and the blockade on the country is lifted.
These statements come hours after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a security incident approximately 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen, on Wednesday evening.
The UKMTO reported receiving information about an incident in the specified area. The captain of an oil tanker reportedly heard a loud explosion near the vessel. The UKMTO confirmed that all crew members are safe and accounted for, with no environmental consequences reported. Authorities are investigating the matter, and vessels are advised to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity to the UKMTO.
