Israeli Minister Raids Prison, Orders Confiscation of Palestinian Prisoners’ Belongings
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the “Prisoners’ Affairs Information Office” issued a press statement on Thursday, revealing that Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli regime’s Internal Security Minister, stormed the Negev prison. He reportedly ordered the confiscation of Palestinian prisoners’ clothing.
The office further specified that the Negev prison administration also seized Qurans belonging to the Palestinian inmates, leaving only one copy per section, each comprising approximately 15 rooms. Following the confiscation of prisoners’ belongings after Ben-Gvir’s raid, the inmates are now in possession of only the bare minimum of clothing.
The statement from the Prisoners’ Affairs Information Office emphasized that the conditions for prisoners in the Negev jail are continuously deteriorating. This decline occurs amid ongoing shortages of food and hygiene supplies, coupled with intensified punitive measures and persistent violations of their rights, which endanger the lives of hundreds of prisoners and necessitate immediate action to halt these transgressions.
The living conditions within the Negev prison have been consistently described as catastrophic. The quality of food provided to prisoners is substandard, with no improvement observed, and there is a severe shortage of hygiene materials.
Daily recreation time for the prisoners does not exceed 45 minutes, a limited period during which they are compelled to manage their bathing and other essential needs.
The Prisoners’ Affairs Information Office stressed that the current measures implemented in the Negev prison represent a dangerous escalation of the Israeli regime’s prison service’s policy of collective punishment against Palestinian detainees.
The body appealed to human rights and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to stop these assaults and prosecute the occupying regime for its ongoing crimes against the prisoners.
According to human rights reports, approximately 9,500 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli jails, including 94 women and over 350 children.
These actions are part of Ben-Gvir’s oppressive policies directed at prisoners. Since assuming office in late 2022, these policies have included the deprivation of basic rights, starvation, medical neglect, torture, systematic isolation, and other abuses.
