Turkey Affirms Defense Pact with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Not Aimed at Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, CNN Turk, citing Jevdet Yilmaz, the Vice President of Turkey, reported that the defense agreement signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is not aimed against Iran.

Yilmaz added that this agreement is not directed at Iran or any other country, but has been signed with the objective of strengthening regional security, promoting joint defense, and enhancing deterrence.

It is noteworthy that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan signed a joint defense agreement, which they named the Mecca Pact, on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also commented that the joint defense agreement with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will enhance security and defense cooperation, as well as the development of defense industries. He reiterated that this joint defense agreement does not target any specific country and welcomes the participation of nations committed to achieving stability in the region.
