Peggy Flanagan Secures Democratic Senate Nomination in Minnesota, Haaretz Reports

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Peggy Flanagan, the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, defeated Angie Craig in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat in the state, securing the party’s nomination. Flanagan had previously declared her intention to support a halt to U.S. military assistance to the Israeli regime if she were to serve in the Senate.

The newspaper characterized Flanagan’s victory as a new success for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and, conversely, a defeat for supporters of the Israeli regime within the party, particularly given Flanagan’s critical stance on the policies of the Israeli regime and the war in Gaza. Haaretz noted that this outcome represents another blow to the influence of the AIPAC lobby in the United States, which had supported Craig and organized fundraising events for her electoral campaign.

This result follows closely on the heels of another primary victory a week prior, where Abdulrahman Elsayed defeated Holly Stevens in Michigan. The Palestinian issue and the Israeli regime were prominent topics in that contest as well. Haaretz observed that these outcomes signal the growing influence of the progressive movement within the Democratic Party and underscore the increasing risks associated with supporting the Israeli regime in American elections and among the U.S. public.

Concurrently, in the House of Representatives primaries held in the same state, Ilhan Omar, a progressive representative and critic of the Israeli regime, once again won the Democratic nomination for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. She is expected to have a strong chance of victory in the general election scheduled for November.
